Air Conditioning Virginia Beach…

WARNING! If your air conditioner stops working this summer, brace yourself!

If you need repair work done on your air conditioner, you may be in for quite a shock when you get the bill…  Even if it is just adding freon. (Companies are charging anywhere from $65 – $200 per pound!)

I only charge $25 per pound.

Before I go into the fact that most air conditioning repair companies mark up their repair parts by 400% or more and would never dare tell you what a part actually cost them before trying to sell it to you, I would like to explain the choice of words I used to name this site, which of course is Air Conditioning Virginia Beach

Although the name of my air conditioning repair and service company is actually Hometown Heating and Cooling, you would never find me on the Internet unless you already new that name, right?

So, if you are visiting with me now then you most likely searched for something like air conditioning Virginia Beach or air conditioning repair in Virginia Beach and presto, here I am.  No sense in me spending a ton of money buying my way into this spot like other companies do and then passing that cost on to you.  This is just one of the many ways I’m able to save you a lot of money on repair bills!

Okay, back to why getting your air conditioning unit fixed or replaced costs so much.

With the fairly mild climate in the Virginia Beach area and short air conditioning and heating seasons, most heating and cooling companies are licking their chops when the mercury climbs above 80 degrees or so.

Why? Well, after going thru a two month long Spring where no one needs heating or cooling, business owners are getting hungry and know they need to fatten up during the summer months to make it thru another long Fall and Winter.

And you are on the menu!

I’m not exaggerating here.  I’ve been in the business long enough to know.  When I was a service technician at one of the largest heating and air conditioning contractors in Hampton Roads, we were told to basically collect as much money as possible on each repair without committing any crimes.

Later, when I had my own business, my partner constantly pushed that envelope.  I found out later he was run out of another state for price fixing and gouging.

I freed myself from that situation pretty quick and am now out doing my own thing.  When I started thinking about how many heating and cooling companies there are in Virginia Beach, all trying to get a piece of your money, I decided to do something completely different.  You will like it but the competition sure doesn’t!

I have another site called heatcool911.com where I actually list all the prices of what a heating or air conditioning repair should actually cost.  Yep, and I even put what our cost for the part is and how long it should take to complete the job.

Now, before I go on, let me assure you, I’m not a backwoods mechanic and I don’t run around in an old pickup truck trying to make a dollar.

I’m fully licensed and even have a couple of those fancy service vans.  But they are paid for, the monthly payments are not going to come out of your pockets, okay?

I have taught heating and air conditioning locally to many of the guys who are now running their own shops and my only regret is that I did not do a better job of warning them about the temptations of making as much money as fast as they possibly can… at your expense!

Here is a video about why I am doing what I’m doing.  This video is actually on my other site as well so when I say in the video how to use the site, I am actually talking about the HeatCool911.com site.

And, even if you do not choose to call me when you have a problem with your air conditioner, at least check out my site when you get the other companies bill to see how much you should be paying, okay?  It will give you some negotiating room!

Okay, I’m a bit long winded but that 10 minutes or so you spent will be well worth it in savings!

I will also be adding a lot of information here on all things heating and cooling. I will talk a lot about indoor air quality, your duct work, different air conditioning manufactures like Trane, Rheem, CarrierGoodman and much more.

Also, we will take a look at some of the governing bodies that regulate our industry like the Air Conditioning Contractors of America or ACCA for short and ASHRAE and also why you might want to be careful when you take recommendations from the Better Business Bureau on what companies to use! (See story here about the BBB”s conflict of interest).

Of course we will also look at things you may not consider when you think about your air conditioner but are extremely important.  Like, your duct system and the way you filter the air.  Most of us know to change our air filters once a month but little else.

Please don’t feel bad about that, it is not your fault.  Before I got into the heating and air conditioning business all I knew about my HVAC system (heating, air conditioning and ventilation) was that the thermostat made it come on and that I had a filter that needed to be changed occasionaly… nothing more.

I had no idea that there was a second part to my air conditioner besides that noisy box that sat outside blowing hot air out of the top.  I knew nothing of the air handler, or evaporator that hid in my attic… until water started pouring thru my ceiling one night from a clogged condensate drain line!

Yeah, you need to keep that drain clean or the humidity that is wrung out of the air when the AC is on will back up and overflow into the ceiling.  I did not know that and when the guy came out to take a look and asked me how to get to the air handler I was totally clueless!  Why was I not taught this in high scholl along with home ownership 101?

Point being, most of us are unaware of what all is envolved with our air conditioning system and I will do my best to cover these components on my website.

Oh, and while I’m thinking about it, here is another reason I can keep my prices so low and save your tons of money on heating and air conditioning repairs.  I actually earn most of my revenue from online sales which takes very little overhead.

Most of that online income is profit so my service department does not have to carry the entire business like it does in most companies.

So there you have it.  I have the same parts and use the same freon as everyone else.  My truck looks a lot cooler and I actually have more experience than most people who will show up at your door and my prices are lower.  Pretty easy decision who to call I would think.

Of course don’t just take my word for it.  Call a few companies and ask what they charge for a pound of freon.  Many won’t tell you, which should be a red flag by the way, and others will be 100-400% higher than I am.  Once you have shopped around here is the next step:

Go and check out what people are saying on Google maps about my company by clicking here.

THEN THIS IS THE NUMBER YOU NEED TO CALL: 506-6488

Oh, I almost forgot.  This site, Air Conditioning Virginia Beach, is really a blog so I will be updating it frequently with different calls I go on and what I found.  Maybe you are having the same problems?  I hope to get some of my customers on camera as well.  Ought to be fun!

Anyway, I sure hope you check out my main website and I hope to see you soon!  HeatCool911.com

As Freon prices continue to go up by leaps and bounds, over 40% our cost in the last month, consumers are going to be faced with the fix it or replace it dilemma.

Guess what most air conditioning contractors in Virginia Beach hope you do?

Yes, replace that old ac unit with  a new one.

Most will say you cannot afford to keep putting freon in your system, especially when prices are $100 a pound or higher.

Yeah, if you are 5 pounds low then you have a pretty good leak and a charge may not get you through the summer.  And, if you are paying a fortune for freon then maybe it might be wise to consider replacing.

HOWEVER, we still have freon at $25 a pound so it makes even more sense to try a re-charge first and see if it lasts you.

At least that way you are not forced into a buying decision you may regret later.

This will also give you some time to budget for your new unit and also get plenty of estimates.

If you go with the air conditioning contractor who says you need a new unit and don’t shop around you can over pay by several thousand dollars… believe me it happens.

So, don’t believe it when a company says you need several hundred dollars in freon so you might as well put that money in a new unit.

We’d be more than happy to give you a second estimate and a much better price as well.  Call today at 757-506-6488

Well, so far we have had one hot summer here in Virginia Beach!

Of course I’m pretty happy about this as the phones are steadily ringing, but there is at least one equipment manufacturer who seems to be having trouble handling the heat this summer… Janitrol.

Actually Janitrol is a name used by Goodman manufacturing.  They no longer use the name but they sold tons and tons of these air conditioning units over the past 20 years and you more than likely have one in your home.

Goodman recently re-tooled their production facility and now put out one of the very best products  but it was not always that way.  In fact, we in the business lovingly refered to the Janitrol unit as “Junkatrol”!

Anyway, it seems this summer there have been a lot of capacitors going bad on these units.  I’ve replaced more than 100 of them myself so I cannot imagine how many all the other 400 or so ac companies have changed but the number must be staggering!

Anyway, capacitors are easy to replace and fairly inexpensive for us to buy but most companies are charging over $200 for this repair… CRAZY!!!!

I sure hope you have not fallen victime to this.  The most common capacitor sizes out there are 30-5 mfd, 40-5 mfd and 45-5 mfd.  You should not pay more than $89 for the largest size.

Sadly, thousands of you have and I sure hope that if you are reading this you will consider maybe using my company mext time you need air conditioning repair in Virginia Beach.  My service call charge is just $45… even on weekends and capicitors are between $65 and $89, depending on the size, so you do the math.

I will save you a lot of money on any and every ac repair.  Please, just give us a call.  And oh, Carrier has had their fair share of bad caps as well but the price is the same no matter what brand you have.. the part is universal so don’t pay out of this world prices for them!!
